    The loud ringing
    Screeching and Whistling
Like granny’s hearing aid gone wrong
    Is my hearing failing?

    The view is wavy, liquid
Like the pavement on a hot summer day
The scenery is foggy, clouded, fading
    My vision must be failing.

    Clammy, sweaty
How can it be cold and yet I am on fire?
My skin feels sticky and moist
    Is my thermometer failing?

    Inhale. Exhale.
    The room is spinning
    I can’t breathe.
    My body’s rejecting reality.

    In waves:
    40 weeks…today
and it’s exactly what they say
    when it comes in waves
    it rolls in
    crashing
    into my belly wall
    reaching round
    through ligaments
    bones loosening
    cervix thinning
    mucus plug
    has left the building
    a silent concentrated breathing
    rolls out
    gently
    I let it go
    and begin to type again
    it’s true what they say
    this pain
    it comes in waves
    a subtle calm
    before a storm
    and through these changing tides
    these waves of pain
I REALLY hope she comes today

    “When the wave hits”

Second one is the white: Eyes are moons. Sight is an arc of light. Fire sears
into places it doesn’t belong, and there reduces to neutron points of focus a million strong.

Moment next: pure orange flame and molten gold, and holding on to anything, grasping anything, capillaries holding, all fire and terrible golden skin molting open, and folding open.

The end: Deep Red. No heaven or blue or sleep. Bowels rush with gravity, and sizzle. I splash open. The thunder never ends. The god’s closed eyelids have spoken: fade to black—.
