About Doran Simmons

I'm a writer and a camper and a keeper of fish. I was trained as a flight instructor and work day jobs and write nonsense for public consumption (hopefully).

  1. The Running Son
    November 22, 2013

I get glimpses of the man, as through a slow moving fan.

The problem is, the blue-hair in horn-rim glasses directly in front of me is really into it, and with wicked rhythm—hands thrust skyward, the skin beneath her arm waving in tandem with the sway of the gospel choir. I lean and bob for a view. The podium is polished steel and streamlined. His suit is steel grey pimp and pin-striped. The silk ferns are everywhere bunched in threes, and the canvas banner, stretched between large scaffolds, shadows several rows with over sixty feet of “J E S U S”.

Eleven rows back and still I get a heavy whiff of Brylcreem and fifteen buck cologne.
