The Daily Prompt – April 3 – National Poetry Month


1. Use the prompt in the way it’s intended (starting a sentence, the title of the piece, theme, etc)

2. You may write in any format you see fit (fiction, non-fiction, poem, song, script, etc.)

3. Post your piece of writing in the comments section of the website to be considered for the ‘Best Of’ section.


The Prompt:

It’s National Poetry Month, and you should be writing a poem a day. So, write us a poem. Let’s keep it to 8 lines. Go!

Chris Margolin spent more than a decade in Education as a high school English teacher, and is now an Instructional Coach for the Longview School District. He is also the founder of The Poetry Question, an online journal which focuses on reviews of small press poetry publications, and runs a regular series called "The Power of Poetry," where notable poets share their personal stories of how poetry has affected their lives. Margolin resides in Vancouver, Washington with his wife, and daughter.

    It drives us.
    But sometimes it overwhelms us.
    It gives the feeling of inner panic.
    It is only in very rare cases however,
    And it is like something us clutching your heart.
    When you count all the things that could possibly go wrong
    And when that time has passed,
    A wave of relief washes over you.
