#TPQ5: SHANNON BRAMER

Elise Moser

I just finished Lily and Taylor (2013, Groundwood Books). It explores friendship and domestic violence so tenderly, bravely and astutely that I could not put this book down.

Jessica Hiemstra

A close friend and inspiration. Jessica is a writer and visual artist. Her poems are paintings and her paintings are poems. Apologetic for Joy (poetry–Biblioasis) is one of my favourite collections.

Andy Jones

Author of The Queen of Paradise’s Garden (Running the Goat Press) and many other wonderfully illustrated stories inspired by Newfoundland folktales. He’s also a brilliant actor and director.

Zora Neale Hurston

Author of Their Eyes Were Watching God, written in 1937. This book tore my heart out of my chest. I so loved the main character, Janie.

Kirby

Kirby’s elegant, heartbreaking and sensual new book, This is Where I Get Off. There are urinals on the cover and poems about sex, love, joy and forgiveness inside. Kirby owns and operates Knife| Fork | Book, a beloved poetry-only bookshop.

Shannon Bramer lives and writes poetry and plays in Toronto. TRAPSONGS: three plays, is forthcoming from Book*hug in 2020. These writers are five of her favourites but she has many more!
