Over the course of the last twelve years I devoted myself to honing my writing skills. I’ve been able to create my own style of writing. I was able to place a balance between evoking emotions and my love for music into my writing which has helped me discuss a lot of experiences I’ve had over the years.
Certain artists captivate me with the shock value they bring when it comes to the music they release. Songs like these cause an instant response for me to begin writing down things as I listen to it over and over. One song that did this was ‘Canceled’ by Bryson Tiller. Bryson Tiller is a multifaceted R&B artist that is very good at blending his singing/rap abilities to personally discuss relationships issues. Listening to this song recently had the same reaction I had when listening to it the first time and I was able to curate a new piece. Enjoy.
Canceled (inspired by the song of the same name)
Can you not…
Not come at me respectfully
Living life the best way I can
All the other shit is dead to me
Only believing actions
And not the bogus shit being said to me
Hearsay is invalid, so you need to come correct to me
Especially, if you want to stand next to me
Sitting on content
But nothing yet complex to me
You can send me paragraphs
In the end, it’s just text to me
If you don’t stand for anything,
how you think you can stand next to me
Perplexes me
Been through a lot, but it never stopped me
Mental been a punching bag
But they could never spar me
Better yet don’t spare me
Because it ain’t fair to me
Spending so much time worrying
When they not paying a fare for me
Just need to be aware of me
If only I knew then, what I know now
See who would’ve rocked with me still
People’s Eyebrow
If only I knew then, what I know now
A lot of people would’ve been canceled by now
